Visit Le Panier from Marseille Old Port
Le Panier is one of the easiest historic areas to explore from the Old Port. This short route keeps you close to the waterfront, cafes and Yves Coiffure if you also want a men's haircut during the day.

- Start on the north side of the Old Port, near Marseille City Hall.
- Climb slowly into Le Panier and keep Vieille Charité as a useful anchor.
- Come back down toward La Major, the J4 esplanade and the Mucem.

Start from the Old Port
Begin around the north side of the Old Port, near Marseille City Hall. From there, rue de la Loge places you close to both Le Panier and Yves Coiffure. If a haircut is on your list, call the salon first and plan the walk around the best available time.
A simple 60 to 90 minute loop
For a compact route, start near City Hall, climb into Le Panier without aiming for every street, use Vieille Charité as the main stop, then descend toward La Major and the J4 esplanade. This gives you a real sense of the historic district without turning the walk into a half-day commitment.
If you want the haircut in the same sequence, keep it at the beginning or the end of the loop. Doing it in the middle can work, but only if you have called first and the timing is clear.
Walk up through the historic streets
Le Panier is known for narrow streets, steps, colorful walls, small shops and local craft addresses. Take it slowly: the area climbs, and the best part is often the walk itself rather than a single monument.
Use Vieille Charité as your anchor
Vieille Charité, at 2 rue de la Charité, is one of the major cultural stops in the neighborhood. Check current museum and exhibition openings before making it the fixed point of your itinerary.
Finish toward La Major and the seafront
From Le Panier, you can continue toward the Cathédrale de la Major, the J4 esplanade and the Mucem area. This keeps the route compact and brings you back toward the sea.
Where the haircut fits
If you are staying in Marseille for only two or three days, the practical move is simple: call Yves Coiffure before or after your Panier walk. Booking is recommended, but walk-ins are possible if you have time to wait nearby.
